A tree-growing experiment by the U.S. Forest Service is taking root in southern Summit County. More than 700 young sycamore, pin oak and American elm trees were planted in a swampy floodplain under the canopy of existing trees as researchers try to determine the best way to replace Ohio's doomed ash trees.
